MTN
Governors of the 36 states of the Federation on Wednesday expressed support for the decision of the Nigerian Communications Commissions (NCC) imposing a fine $5.2 billion (about N1.04 trillion) on MTN Communications Nigeria Limited.

The Governors who met at the presidential villa under the auspices of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) commended the NCC for its strict enforcement of the law in its regulation of the telecom sector.

They asked the Federal Government to expedite action in compelling MTN to pay the fine.

Governor of Zamfara state and chairman of the NGF, Abdul'aziz Yari, while briefing reporters after the meeting which lasted for about three hours, said the forum received a comprehensive brief on the development from the commission's acting Executive Vice Chairman Professor Umar Garba Danbatta.

NCC imposed the levy on MTN for failing to meet a deadline to disconnect 5.2 million unregistered subscribers earlier this year.

Yari said that the forum after receiving a presentation from the NCC chairman congratulated him on his appointment and promised to collaborate with the commission in boosting the telecommunication industry.
