Attorney General of the Federation to reopen corruption cases of former governors

Fresh troubles may be ahead of some former governors as the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abukakar Malami, is set to reopen corruption cases for which they were earlier investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission.

Sources in the ICPC confirmed on Monday that the commission had, last week, received a letter from the office of the AGF, giving the anti-graft agency a directive to that effect.

The embattled former chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin, yesterday, gave a startling revelation on how 10 standing committees allegedly inserted constituency projects worth N284 billion into the 2016 budget without the knowledge of their members.

He also alleged that the speaker, Yakubu Dogara, secretly persuaded him to smuggle N20 billion into the budget through Service Wide Vote.

Jibrin, who stated this in a statement in Abuja, alleged that some cabals had hijacked the speaker to always do their bidding.

Fayose challenge EFCC to publish Statement of Accounts for Dasuki’s Arms Deal

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has challenged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to make public the statement it has extracted from the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, in its ongoing probe of money meant for the purchase of arms and the funding of the last general elections in the country.

He also said the agency should publish his personal accounts it has frozen to let the whole world know what are contained therein.

EFCC interrogates INEC Commissioner over alleged N20m scam

The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner for Abia State, Sylvester Ezeani, was on Tuesday interrogated by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, in connection to an alleged N20 million scam.

Also, a member of the House of Representatives representing Oron Constituency, Akwa Ibom State, Nse Bassey Ekpenyong, was arrested for his alleged involvement in certificate forgery scam.

President Buhari absolves his ministers and aides of corruption

Again, President Mohammadu Buhari has come to the rescue of his ministers and aides, absolving them of any corrupt practices.

This came on a day the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, refuted claims in some quarters that the anti-corruption war of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government was targeted at members of the opposition party and other perceived enemies, saying the view was grossly incorrect and unfounded.

Bribery: EFCC to prosecute suspended judge, Mohammed Yunusa

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is set to charge suspended Federal High Court judge, Justice Mohammed Yunusa, who the National Judicial Commission recently recommended for retirement.

The EFCC had, in February, lodged a complaint of alleged misconduct against Yunusa before the NJC.

Arms Fraud: Appeal Court puts ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki's appeal on hold

The Court of Appeal on Monday put on hold hearing on an appeal filed by Sambo Dasuki, seeking discharge of all the criminal charges against him by the Federal Government.

The presiding Judge, Justice Abdul Aboki, held that the appeal was not ripe for hearing since parties had failed to file all relevant process before the court.

SERAP sues Federal Govt over failure to release names of suspected looters

A civil society organisation, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has sued the federal government for what it described as its failure to release the names of suspected looters of the country’s treasury and the circumstances under which the stolen public funds were recovered.

The suit filed last Friday at the Federal High Court in Lagos followed a Freedom of Information (FoI) request to the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, asking him to provide information on the names of high ranking public officials from whom public funds were recovered and the circumstances under which the funds were recovered, as well as the exact amount of funds recovered from each public official.

The Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to stop shielding his men from probe, just as he asked Nigerians to demand the release of the authentic report of the Committee on Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Nigerian Armed Forces.

He described the claim by the federal government that the probe panel only looked into procurement and contracts awarded by the military between 2011-2015 because documents regarding procurement from 2007 to 2010 were not available as a clear indication of his support for corruption.

Federal Govt uncovers N5.7billion fraud in civil servants’ payroll

The Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit has found discrepancies in the payroll of the Federal Government’s Ministries, Agencies and Departments to the tune of N5.7 billion monthly.

The Head of the Continuous Audit Team, Mr Mohammed Dikwa, made this known in an interview with newsmen on Friday in Kano on the sideline of the two-day National Revenue Retreat, organised by the Ministry of Finance.

EFCC reveals how Omisore received 'hundreds of millions of Naira' from Dasuki

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has revealed why it is still holding in its custody, a former Deputy Governor of Osun State, and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2014 election in the state, Iyiola Omisore.

The anti-graft commission gave the reason in a counter-affidavit it filed before a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory opposing Omisore’s bail application.

It stated that the former senator was still being investigated for money running into hundreds of millions of naira which he allegedly received from the then National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

The Muhammadu Buhari administration says the report of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Armed Forces (2007-2015) was not doctored to remove some names.

A statement issued in Abuja on Friday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, dismissed claims that the arms report was doctored as “untrue”.

Former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, has reacted to Thursday’s arrest of his wife, Alhaja Morufat, by officials of the Department of State Security Service, and condemned in its totality the different versions of the agency’s narratives.

He had issued a statement giving the family’s side of the story before the invitation of his first daughter, Salewa.

Sources hinted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), upon releasing Mrs. Obanikoro on Thursday, had also asked her to report to their office this Friday and that she should come with their first daughter, whom they want for questioning in connection with their investigation.

Operatives of the Department of State Service DSS, yesterday, arrested the wife of the former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, over ongoing investigations into how her husband and two sons collected and laundered over N4.7 billion from the national treasury in 2014.

The DSS had been working in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to track the movement of Obanikoro and his associates linked with the transfer of the huge sum from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, to firms linked to them.

A Federal High Court in Abuja, has turned down the bail application of the former Deputy Governor of Osun state, Iyiola Omisore, presently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged fraud of 60 billion Naira.

Ruling on the former Deputy Governor’s bail application, Justice Olukayode Adeniyi held that his application for bail is premature and incompetent.

President Buhari approves further probe of arms procurement from 2007 to 2015

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved further investigation of people involved in the Defence Equipment Procurement scam from 2007 to 2015.

This is contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by AVM Jon Ode (Retd), the President of the Presidential Committee on the Audit of Defence Equipment Procurement in the Armed Forces (2007-2015).
