Aisha Buhari urges APC to redeem N5,000 allowance pledge to unemployed Nigerians

Wife of the President, Aisha Buhari
The wife of the president, Aisha Buhari, has appealed to the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, not to renege on its campaign promise of paying N5,000 to 25 million unemployed Nigerians.

This is contained in a statement signed by her Special Assistant on Media, Adebisi Ajayi, on Tuesday.

Mrs. Buhari also urged the party to fulfil its promise of giving school children one free meal a day.

She stated this a week after the Senate voted against a motion calling on the government to commence payment of the N5, 000 allowance.

The motion, which appeared an attempt by the opposition party to scoff at the APC government, was defeated by senators of the ruling party.

The PDP accused the APC of reneging on its promise.

In a statement on Wednesday, the party said the APC senators were only doing the bidding of their party, which it said had only used the monthly stipend pledge as a false campaign strategy to win elections.

The APC denied the allegation, and assured the pledge remained intact.

Mrs. Buhari said in a statement that the APC must keep its words.
“The APC is a party of integrity and has assured Nigerians during the campaign that it will pay N5, 000 each month to 25 million most vulnerable citizens.

“Nigerians should be patient with the APC government as the change they had been yearning for has come to stay,” she said.
