President Buhari orders investigation into jos gas explosion

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, has ordered a thorough investigation into the chlorine gas explosion in Jos, Plateau Stat, in which eight deaths were recorded and more injured.

In a message of commiseration to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Plateau state over the incident, President Buhari said that an investigation into the incident was necessary to avoid recurrence.

“The investigation should unravel the facts as to whether this was just an accident.

“Whatever is the case, we need to get to the bottom of this unfortunate and tragic incident,” the President said.
The explosion occurred earlier on Sunday, leaving eight persons dead and over 100 hospitalised.

The injured victims of the Chlorine cylinder explosion at the Plateau State Water Board treatment plant at Dogon Karfe in Jos South Local Government Area, are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals.

The acting Chief Medical Director of Plateau State Specialist Hospital, Dr Philemon Golwa, explained that a leakage at the plant was responsible for the deaths, as residents around the water treatment plant inhaled the chemical.

A statement from the presidency said President Buhari further prayed that God should grant the souls of those who lost their lives in the xplosion peaceful repose and grant a quick recovery to those who were injured in the terrible tragedy.
