Morgan Schneiderlin stalling on new Southampton contract

Southampton are pushing Morgan Schneiderlin into deciding whether he wants to sign a new contract as Tottenham revive their interest in the midfielder.

The France international has been offered a new five-year contract worth £60,000-per-week, a deal that would make him the best paid player at St Mary's.

However, Schneiderlin is stalling on signing the new deal, and it is looking increasingly unlikely he will put pen-to-paper.

And Saints chiefs are seeking confirmation from the midfielder on his future as they prepare for the summer transfer market.

Schneiderlin has two years left to run on his current deal and Southampton are reluctant to allow him to enter the final 12 months of his deal in 2016.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who worked with Schneiderlin at St Mary's, has identified the midfielder as one of his primary summer transfer targets.

Pochettino failed to land the 25-year-old last summer after a concerted effort to lure him from Southampton.

But the Argentine will launch another attempt to land the former Strasbourg midfielder this summer.

North London rivals Arsenal are also interested in Schneiderlin, but the emergence of Francis Coquelin has made a defensive midfielder less of a priority for Arsene Wenger.
