Vermaelen has one year left on his contract with Arsenal but it was widely reported that United were looking to sign the defender.
The Belgium international, who is currently in Brazil for the World Cup, is aware of the rumours but he insists there is no truth in them.
“I know there has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumours but the only thing I can say is that it’s not true,” Vermaelen told Sky Sports News.Vermaelen spent most of last season on the substitutes’ bench at the Emirates and it has been suggested that Arsene Wenger will look to appoint a new club captain ahead of the new season.
“Everybody understands my situation at Arsenal and that I have one year left.
“I understand that people are going to talk but I am here in Brazil and I am enjoying my time and I’m focused on what I am doing.”
When asked whether he has held talks with the manager, Vermaelen responded: “We talk a lot when I am at Arsenal but it’s not what I am going to discuss here, it is something you are going to have to ask him.”
