The Argentine, 25, scored in the 5-1 victory at Tottenham on Wednesday, but pulled up just before half-time.
He will be sidelined for the Premier League games against Chelsea, Norwich, Sunderland and Stoke.
Aguero will also miss the FA Cup fifth-round tie with Chelsea on 15 February and the Champions League last-16 match against Barcelona three days later.
He had only recently returned from an eight-game absence with a calf injury.
His goal against Spurs was his 50th in the Premier League and came after he played for 90 minutes in the FA Cup win over Watford on Saturday.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini contemplated afterwards whether the injury came as a "consequence" of the Watford match, with Aguero still completing his return from his previous injury.
The Chilean boss said: "Sergio has just come back from a calf injury and when he didn't play we have Alvaro Negredo and Edin Dzeko and here we had Stevan Jovetic."
City lead Arsenal by a point at the top of the Premier League.
