Student bites off man’s ear over theft accusation

A 21-year old student, Saheed Anisere, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly biting off a man’s ear.

Anisere, a resident of Idiorogbo Street, Ayobo, Lagos, is facing a-two-count charge of breach of peace and assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector George Nwosu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on May 25 at No 3, Agbakin Ede St., Ayobo, Lagos.

He said that the accused unlawfully assaulted Mr Yakubu Alani by beating him and biting off his ear.
“The accused beat up the complainant by punching his face and biting him to the extent that he cut off his left ear,” he said.
Nwosu said that a case of stealing was reported at Ayobo police station against the accused for stealing a wrist watch.
“The complainant was looking for his wrist watch which was later found on the accused wrist and he refused to release the wrist watch.
“The case was reported at the station and the accused escaped while his father, who was arrested, wrote an undertaking to produce the accused.
“The accused went to the complainant’s house to beat him up and bite his ear,” he said.
The offences, Nwosu said, contravened Sections 166 and 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

He said that Section 171 prescribes a- three- year jail term as penalty for offenders.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty to the offences.

The Magistrate, Mr A .A Adesanya, granted him N200, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case to June 22 for mention.
