Police arrest two over killing of Igbo woman in Kano

The police in Kano State have arrested two people for allegedly killing a female trader (name withheld) accused of blasphemy on Thursday. 

The woman, who was accused of uttering blasphemous statements against the Holy Prophet Mohammed (SAW) was lynched by a mob at Kofar Wambai Market, Plastic Section.

A statement from the Kano State police command, signed by its spokesman, Magaji Musa Majia, said one person was arrested on Thursday, while the second suspect who was the man that had quarrel with woman surrendered himself to the police.
“During the quarrel, the woman was alleged to have uttered an insult against the Prophet Mohammed and she was attacked and lynched to death by an angry mob,” said the statement.
The timely response of the police saved the situation and the husband of the deceased who was at the scene was rescued to protective custody, as her corpse was taken to the morgue. 

The statement said the commissioner of police directed that the two suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID) for investigation.

It concluded that normalcy has been restored to the market and people are going about their normal businesses.
