Nigeria Olympic Committee plans successful outing at the 2016 Rio Olympics

The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) says it has designed plans for Nigeria to have a successful outing at the forthcoming 2016 Rio Olympics.

Secretary of the committee, Tunde Popoola, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday that the body would enter the final stages of preparations for the competition once funds were made available by the Federal Government.

He assured that Team Nigeria would work hard to live up to expectations and to wipe away the memories of the 2012 Olympics in London
``The programme for the athletes from now to Rio is set; if the funds come in today all the activities leading to Rio will start, we don’t have to wait for anything.
``But while the funds were not really available there is nothing anybody can do about it, but it is coming.
``The honourable minister has done so well to ensure that we get these funds, he has gone to a little extent to get some money actually.
``By the time the funds are available, by the time we move out, we should be able to do our best given the circumstance.
``It is not going to be like 2012.’’
The Olympic Games would hold from Aug. 5 to Aug. 18 in Brazil.
