The Lagos State Government said it had disbursed N39 million to 248 vulnerable residents in dire need of financial assistance.

Mr Kehind Joseph, the Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Civic Engagement, disclosed this on Friday in Lagos during the 2016 ministerial briefing.

The governor’s aide said that those affected were found to be in dire need of financial assistance between May 2015 and April 2016.

Governor Ambode, on May 29, 2015, established the Office of Civic Engagement to ensure open and inclusive governance.

The office is under the supervision of the Deputy Governor’s Office.

Joseph said that the office got many requests for financial assistance in the areas of health, education, accommodation and start-up capital for entrepreneurs.
“Our office is well known when it comes to financial assistance. We have assisted the physically challenged, those with health challenges and others,“ he said.
Joseph added that the office was committed to creating harmonious relationship among residents, adding that it had handled many petitions for individuals and groups by going to the root of their grievances.

He said that the office received 66 petitions, investigated and resolved 48 through dialogue in the period under review.
“When we engage the people, we will experience peace and less restiveness.
”Our office is always open to all and we urge residents to utilise this opportunity.
“Whenever you have issues in the state or your rights are being infringed upon, you don’t need to protest or foment trouble; write to us and we will resolve the issues.”
