Osun State Traditional Council of Obas yesterday vowed that if the council does not get an invitation for the Ooni’s coronation, the monarchs would not attend the ceremony.

The Chairman of the council, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran Owa Obokun Adimula, stated this at the meeting of the council held in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to him, “Traditional council of Oba in the state has discussed the invitation at the meeting and noted with one voice that if the council did not receive invitation to grace the ceremony, they would not attend the presentation of staff of office to the new Ooni.”
He averred that as at now, the council has not yet been contacted by letter of invitation, adding that: “We don’t move anyhow, we are fathers not children.”

Meanwhile, the Traditional Council of Obas has also unanimously adopted the Owa Obokun, Adimula of Ijesa Kingdom, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, as the chairman of the council during their council meeting.

Oba Aromolaran disclosed that during the state council meeting of Obas held in Osogbo, after a prolonged discussion, the Kabiyesi Atoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun larooye ll, stated that in view of the fact that the Owa Obokun Adimula of Ijesa kingdom and paramount ruler of Ijesa land has been acting as the chairman of the council since the demise of the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade.

He said the acting chairman of the council should continue as the chairman of the council with effect from December 3, 2015.

In his remark, Aromolaran thanked all the traditional rulers for the kind gesture and support given to him, saying by the grace of Almighty God, he will not disappoint the Obas who stood by him.
He added that when the late Oba Sijuwade was alive, particularly in the later part of his life at meeting in Ile-Ife, “most of the time, I was the one presiding as the chairman of the council.”
Aromolaran emphasised that because of late Sijuwade old age then, and to give him adequate regard concerning his age, the council used to have their meeting in Ife not Osogbo and most of the time, he (Aromolaran) presided over the meeting.

He called for unity and progress among the traditional rulers in the state, promising to work in collaboration with the state Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, to make sure that the economy of the state improves and the people live happily together.
