Court sacks PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus

Uche Secondus
A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has sacked the acting National Chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, from office.

Justice Huseini Baba-Yusuf Tuesday ruled in favour of a former political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Ahmed Gulak, who sued Mr. Secondus and the PDP, alleging that he (Secondus) was holding office illegally.

Mr. Gulak said the office of national chairman was originally zoned to the North-east part of the country and could, therefore, not be occupied by Mr. Secondus, who is from the South-South.

Justice Baba-Yusuf Yusuf agreed with Mr. Gulak and directed Mr. Secondus to vacate office and hand over the leadership of the party to either Mr. Gulak or someone capable from the North East within 14 days.

In his prayers, Mr. Gulak said based on the constitution of the party and its zoning principle, he should be the rightful occupant of the office of acting national chairman of the PDP.

The former Chairman of the party, Ahmadu Muazu, who is from Bauchi state resigned his position after the party lost the 2015 presidential election.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the PDP, Olisa Metuh said the party’s National Working Committee would discuss the judgment at its meeting on Wednesday.

“We would come out with a position after the meeting,” he said.
