Boko Haram plans to bomb Vice President Osinbajo's house?

Boko Haram insurgents are planning to take their terrorist act a notch higher with security reports suggesting that they would target the residence of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo using scavengers with bomb-laden refuse.

The vice president himself disclosed this at Thursday's meeting of the National Economic Council (NEC) he chaired at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.


According to talking points/resolution of the meeting obtained by State House correspondents, Osinbajo made the disclosure while regretting that insurgency had affected the economy of the of the North East and the country in general.

While calling for more sensitisation of the citizens, the vice president, who had toured some of the states affected by insurgency, demanded NEC's pressure on the newly-appointed service chiefs to do more to tackle the terrorists and bring their menace to a halt.

The resolution said: "The vice president regretted that the insurgency has affected the economic life of the north east and the country as a whole.

"He called for the council to speak as a team to put pressure on the service chiefs to increase their efforts in fighting insurgency.

"There should be increase in sensitisation and education channels like radio, television.

"The vice president also disclosed that security reports had it that scavengers are now being prepared by insurgents to dump refuse laden with bombs in the house of the vice president."

During the meeting, governors from the North East and North West presented updates on the insurgency in their region as well as other criminal activities including cattle rustling and banditry in the north west

In particular, governors of Yobe and Borno states raised the alarm over five local government areas of the two states still being controlled the insurgents while the terrorists are still hiding in Sambisa Forest.

The governors, therefore, called for increase in military deployment and provision of sophisticated military equipment in those areas.

Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State warned of the possibility of another Sambisa Forest developing in his state as most cattle rustlers active in Kaduna are camped in Kumuku National Park.

The council also called for efforts to deal with the situation.
