Ondo
State government has announced that the implementation of the residency
card, otherwise known as Kaadi Igbeayo, will begin on July 2.
The state Commissioner for Information, Honourable Kayode Akinmade, in a
statement on Tuesday said that ownership of the card would, from the
said date, become a condition for residents of the state to access
government services.
He said that parents who
want their wards to continue to enjoy the school shuttle scheme and
mothers who want to access government hospital facilities as well as
those interested in subsidised agric inputs, among other social
benefits, would only be able to do so if they possess the card.
He listed other advantages of the cards to include: facilitation of
efficient record keeping, higher level of service delivery in health,
education, transportation and agriculture.
Government,
therefore, directed those who have not obtained their cards to visit the
civic data centres in their respective local governments.
It
will be recalled that the Federal Government had, at the launch of the
card before now, described it as a tool that will fast-track the
socio-economic development of the state.
Represented at the
launch by former Minister for Information, Labaran Maku, the Federal
Government said the card would revolutionise the state’s economy.
The
former minister who lauded Governor Olusegun Mimiko for standing firm
by building on the developmental legacies left behind by the sage, Chief
Obafemi Awolowo, said his administration had placed emphasis on social
welfare, targeted at making life better for the people.
Over 850,000 residents have so far obtained their residency cards.
