Nigerian military repel attack on Shetimari town of Borno; ...kills 2 suicide bombers

The Defence Headquarters on Friday said two suicide bombers leading a band of terrorists died as troops repelled the insurgents’ attack on Shetimari, Borno State, on Thursday evening.

The suicide bombers were among 'over a score' of terrorists who died in Shetimari.

This was contained in a statement issued in Abuja by Major General Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information.

Olukolade said over 12 rifles and one machine gun were recovered from the terrorists as the attack was repelled.

He said the troops also recovered from the group rocket propelled grenades and some bombs.

According to him, troops conducting mop-up operation were still combing the area, while others are pursuing those on the run.

Olukolade said incidents of suicide bomb attacks were also recorded in Jimeta, Yola and Maiduguri on Thursday evening, adding that the details of the attacks 'are still forthcoming.'

He also said that the troops’ operations in Sambisa and other forest enclaves of the terrorists were continuing with intelligence activities, aerial surveillance and highly coordinated air bombardment backed by ground assaults.

He said the details of the operations would be made known as they progressed.
