Napoli
have put a £67m price tag on the Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuaín to
ward off reported interest from a host of Europe’s leading clubs
including Arsenal, Liverpool and Milan.
Higuaín was among
Rafael Benítez’s first signings in the summer of 2013 and has enjoyed a
prolific two seasons at Napoli, scoring 50 goals, but despite two on the
final day of the season against Lazio as well as a missed penalty, his
side missed out on qualification for the Champions League.
Napoli
have no interest in cashing in on one of their prized assets however,
releasing a statement informing potential suitors that they must meet a
release clause of €94.7m (£67m) to sign the 27-year-old.
Higuaín
is currently at the Copa América with Argentina, where he scored the
winning goal in a 1-0 victory against Jamaica to book his side’s place
in the last eight of the tournament, where they will play Colombia.
