Martin Skrtel unhappy with Liverpool offer

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has claimed the club’s new contract offer as ‘unacceptable’ and is more befitting an older player with health problems.

Skrtel’s contract is due to expire next summer but he has already held talks with the club over a new deal amid reported interest from Napoli and Wolfsburg.

However, he has cast doubt over his future at Anfield by hitting out at the terms being offered to him.

“It’s unacceptable for me. I think that such contracts are offered to players who are much older than me or players who have had some health problems,” Skrtel is quoted as saying in Slovakian publication Aktualne.

“The contract, which was presented to me, makes me uneasy, so I did not sign it.

“There has been some speculation about the interest of other clubs for my person, but they are currently being addressed.”
Skrtel is Liverpool’s most experienced central defender and his comments will do little to ease the pressure on manager Brendan Rodgers, who is facing a battle to keep Raheem Sterling at the club.
