The
Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, has inaugurated the 6th Kogi
House of Assembly, with a call on the members to work as a family for
the development of the state.
Governor Wada while
inaugurating the House stated that the function he performed was in
consonance with Section 105(3) of the constitution of the Federal
Republic of Nigeria which provides that the governor of a state shall
issue a proclamation to that effect.
The
Governor congratulated the legislators for their election and urged them
to reciprocate the gestures back to the people of their various
constituencies.
He assured them of the cooperation of the
Executive Arm, as he pledged to abide by the rule that divided the
functions from those of the Legislative Arm.
He also issued a proclamation and then exchanged handshakes with the Legislatures in respective of their party.
The
Oath of Allegiance and Oath of Office was administered by the Clerk of
the House on the newly Legislators and thereafter nominations for the
seat of Speaker and Deputy Speaker was called.
Friday Sani of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominated the former speaker of the
5th Assembly,Momoh-Jimoh Lawal, for the position of Speaker, while Mr
Akuh was nominated by Victor Omofaiye of PDP Kabba Bunu, for the Deputy
Speaker.
As the Swearing-in of the Speaker was going on,
nominations did not go well with the APC members in the House, as they
said the Clerk had not followed due process. The contention led to a
rowdy session.
The 11 APC legislature in the House walked out,
while the 14 PDP Legislature witnessed the Swearing-In ceremony and
adjourned the sitting until August 13.
