The curfew had been on the state for over two years now due to the Boko Haram crisis.
This curfew had always been reviewed especially during Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of fasting and seeking the face of God.
Before the latest review, the state had been under 6a.m. to 7p.m. curfew.
This was however reviewed to cover the hours of 9:30p.m till 6a.m for the period of Ramadan so as to enable for movement for prayers and other spiritual obligations during the Ramadan.
Announcing the extension of the curfew after a security meeting with service chiefs, Governor Kashim Shettima, who addressed the state in a live broadcast, said: “The curfew is only applicable to the residents of Maiduguri metropolis and Jere Local Government Area, while those wishing to enter the town outside the metropolis will be restricted on or before 7p.m.
He noted that the 6a.m.- 7p.m. curfew still stood or remained enforced especially for motorists and passengers that will be coming from outside Maiduguri metropolis, while residents of the city are allowed to go about their normal businesses within the extended curfew period during the Ramadan season.
He, however, urged all and sundry to be vigilant and be law abiding and equally called on the Muslim ummah to use the period of the Ramadan to pray for the restoration of peace in the state.
