QPR
have started to prepare for a return to the Championship by releasing a
number of players who are out of contract in the summer.
Joey
Barton, Richard Dunne, Bobby Zamora, Rio Ferdinand, Shaun
Wright-Phillips and goalkeeper Brian Murphy have been informed that they
will not be offered new deals.
However, Clint
Hill and Alejandro Faurlin have both been offered new deals, while Karl
Henry has the option of extending his stay at Loftus Road by another 12
months.
Dunne, who made 69 appearances for the club, joined QPR
in the summer of 2013 and the former Republic of Ireland international
played a key role in the club’s promotion to the Premier League. Indeed,
he was named man of the match in the play-off win over Derby.
Ferdinand
made 12 appearances since joining on a free transfer last summer, while
Barton will depart after four eventful years. Zamora scored the winning
goal as QPR were promoted at the expense of Derby.
Confirming
the news on its official website, QPR said: “The club would like to
thank all the players for their contribution to QPR and wish them every
success in the future.”
