QPR manager Chris Ramsey confirms player issues

QPR manager Chris Ramsey has revealed there have been issues with some of the club’s players, but stopped short of blaming them for their relegation from the Premier League.

Following the club’s 6-0 defeat to Manchester city, captain Joey Barton took to Twitter to slam some players in the dressing room, labelling them ‘bad eggs’, in the club’s fight against relegation.


Barton refused to name the players but it has since been reported that Eduardo Vargas and Mauro Zarate caused problems during the season.

At his press conference on Thursday, Ramsey confirmed there have been issues with the players.

“What was reported in the week regarding the players, I mean there were some issues I won’t deny that, we dealt with them at the time.” he told reporters.

“Unfortunately these things happen in football, unfortunately our dirty laundry has come out. We need to draw a line under it and move on.

“I mean, what I can say is that there were problems of a similar nature that we dealt with. The players have basically not been available to be picked subsequently.

“I think over the course of a season you can’t pin-point players. I wouldn’t blame them as individuals, but it hampered our choice of players.”

Meanwhile, Ramsey will find out within the next week whether he will be appointed manager on a permanent basis.

Ramsey has been in charge of the club since Harry Redknapp’s departure in February and he is hopeful that he will be kept on despite failing to keep them in the Premier League.

“I’ve been told an announcement will be made within a week,” Ramsey said.

“As far as I know there hasn’t been an interview process. But managers pop up even when there isn’t one.

“I hope it will be me. I believe it will be me as much as football will allow it.”
