Manchester United reach agreement with PSV Eindhoven to sign Memphis Depay

Manchester United have reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven to sign Memphis Depay.

The 21-year-old has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford having playing under Louis van Gaal during last summer’s World Cup.

In March, Depay’s agent Kees Ploegsma denied claims that talks had already taken place, but it emerged early on Thursday that the player had informed his team-mates that he would be moving to United.

The Dutch club has since confirmed they have reached an agreement with the Premier League club, with Depay set to complete his move to England this summer, subject to the successful completion of a medical.

“We are very proud of this upcoming transfer, which came in a huge momentum,” said PSV’s technical manager Marcel Brands.

“Memphis has gone through all the teams of the PSV youth academy and has played an important part in the national title this year. He’s a wonderful exponent of our training and will make a nice transition to a magnificent club in a beautiful competition.

“Regarding sports, we lose obviously a fantastic player, which is of great value to the team. But very PSV grants him these wonderful step.”
Details of the deal have not been revealed but it is believed that it is worth in the region of £23million, while Depay will sign a four-year contract with the Red Devils.
“#mufc has reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven & Memphis Depay for the player’s transfer, subject to a medical,” United tweeted.

“Pending the successful completion of the medical, the deal will go through once the transfer window opens in June.”
Depay signed his first professional contract in 2012 but it was not until the 2013-14 season that he made his breakthrough.
“I always say; Dream, Believe, Achieve. I was dreaming and believing of becoming the champions of the Eredivisie with PSV and we achieved it,” Depay wrote on his official Twitter page.

“Now it’s time to set my goals again on winning trophies with @ManUtd.”
