Gunmen kill governor-elect Nasir el-Rufai’s campaign coordinator

Markus Ishaya, a campaign coordinator for Kaduna State Governor-elect, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, was on Tuesday killed by gunmen.

Ishaya was said to have been trailed by the gunmen to his Atuku Kasa area of Jema’am Local Government Area of the state.

He was a local coordinator of the governor-elect at the Atuku Ward.

According to the spokesman for the All Progressives Congress Kaduna Campaign Council, Mr. Samuel Aruwan, the coordinator was shot several times by the yet-to-be identified gunmen.

A statement by Aruwan said the APC in the state was notified of the death by the family.

The statement said the killing of Ishaya had brought to 10 the number of members of the APC that had been killed in the state before, during and after the general elections.

A family source said the two-man heavily armed gang, stormed the residence of the APC chieftain and shot him repeatedly.

“And they didn’t pick any property in his residence except carrying out the ungodly act,” the source added.
It stated, “The Police have confirmed the incident. The Police have also visited the scene of the crime and have commenced investigation.

“While we appreciate their prompt action, our expectation is that the security agencies will fully investigate this killing and prosecute the perpetrators.

“Security agencies must adequately protect all Nigerians irrespective of their status and standing.”

El-Rufai, while condoling the family, said, “Our empathy and prayers go to the family of Mr. Markus Ishaya and the entire community over this callous murder and desecration of human life.”
