Ten
Nigerians are feared dead after angry South Africans launched a
xenophobic attack on African migrants in Johannesburg on Friday April
10th, a report has disclosed.
Reports surfaced on Friday
that at least twenty people described as foreign nationals have been
killed in a wave of xenophobic violence in the South African city of
Durban. Local media reported without naming the countries affected.
Reports
surfaced on Tuesday, naming the affected migrants as 10 Nigerians, 5
Gabonese, 10 Somalis and 5 Congolese who were killed with some of their
bodies set ablaze during the attack.
Residents looted shops owned by foreigners on Thursday, with one Somali shopkeeper now fighting for his life.
Hundreds of people from Malawi, Burundi, Zimbabwe and Congo have reportedly fled their homes in the past two weeks.
Reports
claims, the South Africans say their anger is that black migrants from
other African countries are taking all the jobs available to young men
in their country, leaving them, the citizens jobless, and slowly taking
over their economy.
The South African police is currently
patrolling the city to avert further attacks on shops owned by
immigrants from other African countries.
Malawian government has
concluded plans to repatriate its citizens in South Africa following
the increased rate of xenophobic attacks.
