The
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
Professor Atahiru Jega, has stated that the commission is prepared for
the 2015 polls, making it abundantly clear that there will be no further
postponement of the elections slated for March 28 and April 11.
Professor
Jega gave the assurance at a meeting with Civil Society Organisations
in Abuja to assess INEC’s preparedness for the conduct of the elections.
The
INEC boss, however, expressed concern over the security of the
personnel that will be deployed for the exercise, especially in the
north east where troops are currently battling to flush out boko haram
insurgents.
INEC had announced the postponement of the elections which had been scheduled for February 14 due to security concerns.
The electoral umpire had announced a shift in the general elections dates to March 28 and April 11.
The new schedule was announced after Prof Jega met with political stakeholders in Abuja on February 7.
Professor
Jega said that the Presidential Election would hold on March 28 while
the Governorship election would hold on April 11.
