The United Nations Secretary General, Mr Ban Ki Moon, had backed Nigerian’s fight against Boko Haram.
The
UN Secretary General’s backing was disclosed to State House
correspondents by the former ECOWAS Chairman and representatives of the
UN Secretary General for Nigeria and West Africa, Mr Ibn Chambers, after
a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan in the Presidential Villa.
He
said that the UN Department of Peace Keeping would be providing a
commanding control and unity of purpose among the different countries
contributing troops towards the elimination of Boko Haram.
On
Nigeria’s elections, Mr Chambers said that the United Nations is full of
expectations that all would be well with Nigeria in the forthcoming
general elections.
He further called on politicians to exercise restraint and keep the process clean.
He
also spoke on humanitarian support for displaced persons following the
Boko Haram terror attacks, promising that UN would provide humanitarian
support to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to ameliorate
the sufferings of displaced persons.
