Van Persie and Luke Shaw fit to return for Manchester United

Robin van Persie and Luke Shaw are fit and available for Manchester United’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Cambridge United on Friday evening.

Both players missing last weekend’s win at QPR through injury, but they have returned to training and could return to the squad for the trip to the Abbey Stadium.


While Van Persie and Shaw are fit, manager Louis van Gaal must plan without Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Ashley Young.

“We have to wait until training but Ashley Young, Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans are out for sure,” he told MUTV.

“Robin van Persie is available, Luke Shaw is also available.”

It has been claimed that Victor Valdes will make his debut for United against Cambridge, but Van Gaal refused to confirm the rumours.

“I have read in the media he is picked. That is a little bit strange. I cannot answer the question. I will give you my line up three quarters or an hour before the game,” the Dutchman stated.

While United are the heavy favourites to progress to the fifth round.,Van Gaal has warned his players not to get complacent.

“I have seen the capacity of the stadium – nearly 10,000 fans can watch the game. The crowd is good and I hope we can beat them,” he said.

“They are in good shape, though, as they have won their last three matches. They have also bought new players, so we have to be alert to play against such teams.”
