Samuel Eto’o could become a Sampdoria player as early as Tuesday, the Italian club has announced.
Eto’o
has made 12 appearances for Everton since joining from Chelsea five
months ago, and had been set to earn a one-year extension once he had
played 15 matches for the Toffees.
Roberto
Martinez’s reluctance to keep the striker paved the way for him to hold
talks with Sampdoria and the 33-year-old’s representative have been in
negotiations with the Serie A club for some time.
A deal is
close to being agreed and he is expected to travel to Italy on Tuesday
before putting pen to paper on an 18-month deal.
“Eto’o should be here in Genoa on Tuesday,” Samp sporting director Carlo Osti told Italian TV station Telenord.
Eto’o will have to take a significant wage cut to return to Serie A.
