The
secretariat of the All Progressive Congress in Ekiti state was on
Wednesday attacked by gunmen, who destroyed flags and posters of the
party’s candidates.
According to a statement by Taiwo
Olatunbosun, the state Publicity Secretary, gunmen came in four Hilux
vehicles and a car to attack.
Street lights
along Ajilosun street, where the APC secretariat is located were
switched off shortly before the raid and the security man at the gate of
the APC office was wounded by the hoodlums, the statement said.
Olatunbosun
claimed that the Director of Department of State Service, Mr. Samuel
Tamuno and the Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, had been informed
about the development.
When contacted, Lakanu confirmed the
crisis saying there was no sporadic shooting and he has sent his men to
maintain peace and order at the scene.
Meanwhile, Ekiti
Governor, Ayo Fayose reportedly has intentions to hold a rally at Fajuyi
roundabout in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday, the same day the APC presidential
rally has been scheduled for the same day, contradicting INEC’s law that
prevents two parties from holding a rally on the same day in the same
state capital.
Fajuyi is said to be a major link to Ekitiparapo square where APC intends holding its presidential rally on Saturday.
