A
teenager, Lucky Omobuaw, has been dragged to a magistrate’s court
sitting in Ajegunle, Lagos State for alleged defilement of a
two-year-old girl.
Omobuaw, who was said to be a neighbour
to the baby’s parents, lives on Baale Street, Era Town in the Ijanikin
area of the state. He reportedly committed the act at about 4pm on
November 18.
It was learnt that the victim was playing with her siblings when the suspect, who hails from Delta State, took her to his room.
It was gathered that her mother went to collect her Permanent Voter Card when the incident happened.
It
was further learnt that the child’s father, Anthony Aniebue, was told
by her playmates that she was in Omobuaw’s room. On getting there, it
was said the apartment door was locked, prompting him to barge in.
Aniebue
reportedly met the teenager ─ who he claimed was in a state of orgasm ─
and his daughter naked on the bed. Omobuaw was said to have managed to
flee on sighting the enraged father.
The police said the girl
was taken to a hospital where a test was conducted on her, adding that
the medical report confirmed her hymen had been broken.
Omobuaw was arrested after the incident was reported at the Ijanikin Police Division.
Subsequently, a prosecutor, Supol Olu Ojaokomo, brought him before the court on one count of rape.
The
charge read, “That you Lucky Omobuaw, 18, on November 18, 2014, at
about 4pm, on Baale Street, Era Town, Ijanikin, in the Lagos Magisterial
District, did unlawfully defile a two-year-old girl and thereby
committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 135 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. O.I. Adelaja, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
