Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has been appointed as the new head coach of Schalke.
Di
Matteo guided Chelsea to their first Champions League title in 2012
after succeeding Andre Villas-Boas as manager and was rewarded with a
permanent contract.
However, he was dismissed
in November 2012 in the wake of the Champions League defeat to Juventus
which left them on the brink of an early exit from the competition.
He
has been out of work ever since, but returns to management with the
German side following Jens Keller’s dismissal on the back of an
inconsistent start to the season.
Schalke are currently 11th in
the Bundesliga with just two victories from their opening seven games,
while they are third in their Champions League group, which includes
Chelsea.
Di Matteo will be reunited with the Blues when they travel to Germany on November 25.
