A
21-year-old driver, Daniel Ushana, was on Thursday remanded in prison
custody by a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court in Benue State for allegedly
raping a 15-year-old girl.
The accused, who lives at Yariwata
Community in the Guma Local Government area of Benue confessed to the
offence after he was arrested by the police.
The
Magistrate, Mrs Theresa Wergba, refused to take the plea of the accused
for want of jurisdiction and adjourned the case to Nov. 10 for mention.
The
Prosecutor, Insp. Micheal Orhundu, told the court that the case was
reported by one Agundo Tersoo at Gbajimba Divisional Police
Headquarters on Sept. 29.
The complainant said that the accused person forcefully had sexual intercourse with his niece.
The prosecutor said that investigation into the matter was ongoing and therefore asked the court for adjournment.
He said the offence contravened Section 284 of the Penal Code.
