The
Nigerian police on Wednesday in Abuja organized a one-day training
workshop in response to the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, outbreak in
Nigeria.
The training, declared open by the Inspector
General of Police, Suleiman Abba, was organized by the Police Medical
Department in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Health.
Mr.
Abba said while a lot has already been done in advocacy and
sensitization of personnel in Police Divisions, formations and barracks
across Nigeria, the police still needs to harmonize her operations with
other Police key operational units, in line with the National Response
Protocol.
The workshop which had resource persons from the
Federal Ministry of Health, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and World
Health Organization, WHO, was well attended by Police Officers from
across the nation.
Since the outbreak of the deadly virus
diseases in Nigeria, 17 EVD cases were confirmed in Nigeria, including
the index case, a Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer.
Also six have died as a result of the EVD, 11 people have also survived the deadly disease in Nigeria.
