Arsenal face an anxious wait before learning the extent of the ankle injury sustained by Olivier Giroud.
The
Frenchman was injured during Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Everton but the
club have yet to discover how long he will be sidelined for with the
forward set to visit a specialist.
He will
definitely miss Wednesday’s Champions League play-off second-leg clash
with Besiktas but it is feared the injury will rule him out until
November at the earliest.
“Olivier will not play against
Besiktas and will see a specialist, then we’ll make an announcement of
how long he’ll be out,” manager Arsene Wenger said.
It has been
reported that Giroud broke a bone in his foot and a long-term lay-off
could force Wenger back into the transfer market before Monday’s
deadline.
“It can be (a long term injury). We’ll see tomorrow. I don’t know (if it’s broken). It’s sad for us,” Wenger said.
