World Cup 2014: England's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set for scan scan on knee injury

Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s participation in the World Cup is in doubt ahead of a scan on the knee injury he received in England’s 2-2 draw with Ecuador in Miami last night.

The 20-year-old fell awkwardly following a challenge from Carlos Gruezo midway through the second half and was forced to leave the field with a suspected knee ligament injury.

England manager Roy Hodgson expressed concern for the Arsenal player who looked set to play a key role for the national side in the upcoming tournament.

“It would be an enormous blow to lose him. He did ever so well and looked really, really sharp,” he said afterwards.

“His knee buckled under the challenge as the player turned into him. At the moment, he doesn’t know how to feel because he doesn’t know how serious the injury is.”
England begin their World Cup campaign against Italy in Manaus on June 14th.
