Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere out for 6 weeks with foot fracture

Jack Wilshere is facing at least six weeks on the sidelines after suffering a hairline fracture to a bone in his left foot.

Wilshere was injured while playing for England in Wednesday’s 1-0 international friendly win over Denmark when he was caught on the top of the foot in a challenge with Liverpool defender Daniel Agger.

Despite requiring treatment, the Arsenal midfielder was able to carry on and moved to allay fears over his fitness after the match by claiming the scan had only shown a bruise.

However, the Arsenal medical team were keen to investigate further and it has since been discovered that he sustained a hairline fracture to the navicular bone in his left foot.

“Jack Wilshere has sustained a hairline fracture to the navicular bone in his left foot,” a statement on the Arsenal website confirmed.

“Wilshere suffered the injury during England’s international match with Denmark on Wednesday night at Wembley Stadium, in which he played 59 minutes.

“Following initial scans carried out by the FA on Wednesday night, further investigation by Arsenal’s medical team has discovered a crack to a small bone in Jack’s left foot – the navicular, an area of his foot which has not been previously injured.

“Jack will now require a period of approximately six weeks’ rehabilitation, before starting to regain his match fitness.”
