A
former lawmaker, Senator Gbemisola Saraki has defected to the ruling
party of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from the Allied Congress Party
of Nigeria (ACPN) in Kwara state with the pledge to work with like minds
to wrestle power from the present government in the state.
Senator
Saraki alleged that the state has not witnessed any tangible
development since the present administration took over, accusing those
in power of neglecting majority of those that voted them into power
while declaring her support for the PDP in a rally in Ilorin, the state
capital.
She further lamented the alleged
mismanagement of the state resources by a “selected few who do not have
the love of the state at heart” and expressed her readiness to work with
others in turning around the fortunes of the state.
She urged
members of the PDP in the state to work together in achieving its goals
and promised to support the new leadership of the party in its
transformation agenda to bring sanity to the party.
Saraki, who said she was worried about the plight of youths in the state, added that majority of them were jobless.
“The situation is so bad that many people have abandoned the trades they spent several years to learn,” she said.
She
however, expressed optimism that if voted into power, PDP would return
Kwara to the path of excellence in the management of human and natural
resources.
She urged the people of Kwara to support President
Goodluck Jonathan, saying she was happy that majority of the people
remained in PDP.
Mr Lola Ashiru, an APC chieftain in Offa,
Kwara, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, also of APC and Alhaji Abdulrahman
Abdulrazaq, the governorship candidate of the CPC in the 2011 elections
were among those who defected to the PDP.
