Real
Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso has ended speculation about his future by
signing a new two-year contract with the Spanish giants.
The
32-year-old midfielder, who’s contract was due to expire in the June,
had been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, but will now stay
at the Bernabeu until 2016.
The La Liga side confirmed on their
website that Alonso had signed his new deal, “Xabi Alonso will continue
with Real Madrid until 2016.”
And the World Cup winner took to Twitter to express his delight after agreeing his new deal, “This will continue to be my home for two more years. I am very happy to tell you. Come on Madrid!” Alonso posted on his official Twitter account.
The
former Liverpool midfielder’s team-mates Fabio Coentrao, Angel Di Maria
and Alvaro Morata have also been linked with January moves to England,
but Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said on Wednesday that no movement was
expected in the January window.
“I’ve not spoken with them
because there’s nothing. No-one is leaving and no-one is coming in. We
have a good squad. We don’t need anything,” said Ancelotti when asked
about the futures of Coentrao and Di Maria.
