Theo
Walcott fears he could be out for up to four weeks as he prepares to go
for a scan on Monday on suspected strained knee ligaments.
Walcott
was showered by coins from some Tottenham supporters when he was
stretchered off towards the end of Arsenal’s 2-0 FA Cup third round tie
at the Emirates.
Arsenal chief Arsene Wenger admitted on Saturday
that he faces a couple of weeks out, but he may be on the sidelines a
little bit longer after an initial assessment earlier on Sunday.
Walcott
has been in fine form since returning to the Arsenal team from injury
for the 6-3 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last
month.
He scored twice in that game and followed it up with a double at West Ham in the 3-1 victory and another in the win at Cardiff.
Walcott
started Saturday's Cup tie against north London rivals Tottenham up
front, but Arsenal ended the game with ten men because they had already
used three substitutes when he was injured.
The injured knee is
sore and he will head for a scan on Monday, but the earliest indications
are that he will miss some important games.
Arsenal have a break
before they play Aston Villa at Villa Park on January 13, before they
go on to play Fulham and Southampton in the Barclays Premier League
before the end of the month.
Wenger will be able to get by
without him, but Arsenal will need him back for the tough games coming
up with Liverpool (Feb 8) and Manchester United (Feb 12).
They
also have the Champions League second round first leg against Bayern
Munich coming up at the Emirates on Feb 19 before the return in the
Allianz-Arena on March 11.
